Pulmicort Turbohalers are a preventative everyday treatment for the symptoms of asthma. This inhaler will help to control your asthma, as well as helping to prevent future attacks. Pulmicort works by reducing the inflammation within the airways, making it much easier to breathe. This is done with an active ingredient called budesonide, a corticosteroid.

Pulmicort is a popular alternative to aerosol inhalers. The medicine is present in powder form, and the device is activated by simply twisting its base and inhaling from the mouthpiece. This means that fewer steps and less coordination are required. The device also features an indicator window, which displays how many dosages are left.

Following a free consultation, you can purchase repeat supplies of Pulmicort Turbohaler through The Independent Pharmacy's Online Doctor service. This service is available to asthma sufferers who have been previously diagnosed with the condition by their GP.

Three different strengths of turbohaler are available. They come in dosages of 100, 200 and 400 micrograms. Your doctor will prescribe the strength that is appropriate for you – this will depend on a variety of factors, including the severity of your asthma, your age, and your medical history.

In The United Kingdom, asthma is believed to affect over 5 million people. The condition is caused by an inflammation of the bronchi, which are the tubes that connect the lungs to the windpipe. This inflammation results in the airway passages contracting. It also increases the production of phlegm, which will further increase the obstruction in the airways. This leads to asthma symptoms, which include; shortness of breath, tightness of chest, wheezing, and coughing.

Preventer inhalers, such as Pulmicort, reduce the inflammation in the bronchi that can lead to an asthma attack. Once budesonide enters the lungs, it prevents the localised cells from producing the chemicals necessary for causing inflammation. When used every day, Pulmicort will effectively manage the inflammation of the airways, reducing your risk of experiencing asthma symptoms. You should continue to use Pulmicort turbohalers even if your symptoms improve - to prevent your breathing problems from returning.

Importantly, preventer inhalers are not designed to treat asthma immediately. This product will not provide any relief during an asthma attack. For this reason, you should always carry a reliever inhaler too. You will likely be prescribed Pulmicort alongside a reliever inhaler, in order to effectively control your asthmatic symptoms.

Alternatives

Asthma is not a condition that can be effectively treated with over the counter medications. If you are looking for another treatment or wanting to swap inhalers you will need to broach this subject with your GP at your regular asthma review.

Please do not 'Try' a new inhaler without seeing your GP first.

We recommend you have a regular check up with your regular GP to ensure your inhalers are still keeping your asthma controlled and are still the best course for you.

*Prescription medicines are supplied subject to a medical consultation at the discretion of a doctor.

The recommended dose of Pulmicort will vary depending on the severity of your asthma and the strength of your inhaler. Check with your doctor to ensure you are using the correct dosage.

Generally, you will be advised to take one or two puffs from a Pulmicort turbohaler, twice a day. It is most effective at controlling inflammation when it is used every day.

After using the turbohaler, remember to brush your teeth and/or rinse your mouth. This will prevent oral side effects from developing.

Not everyone will experience side effects when they use Pulmicort turbohalers, however, if you do they can include:

Coughing, sore throat, thrush (fungal infection) of the throat or mouth

Even rarer side effects include restlessness and depression.

If you are concerned about these effects, or if the product affects you in any other way, stop using it and talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

The active ingredient contained in a Pulmicort turbohalers is:

Budesonide

Because the budesonide is present in dry powder form, no additional ingredients are necessary.

Reading the following warnings carefully will help to ensure you are selecting an appropriate product.

Do not use this turbohaler if you are allergic to budesonide.

Before using Pulmicort, inform your doctor if you have:

  • A lung infection
  • A cold or chest infection
  • A liver disorder
  • Any history of tuberculosis

Inform your GP or pharmacist if you are currently taking or intend to take any of the following medicines:

  • Any other steroid-based medicines
  • Antifungal medicines (e.g. ketoconazole, itraconazole)
  • HIV medicines (e.g. nelfinavir, ritonavir)

Please read all packaging and the Product Information Leaflet before taking any new medicine and inform your doctor of medicines you are taking or intend to take.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will Pulmicort Turbohalers help to treat an Asthma attack?

There are two types of inhaler: preventers and relievers. Preventer inhalers, such Pulmicort are used daily to control inflammation in the airways, which reduces the risk of an asthma attack occurring. It will not provide relief from an asthma attack.

Reliever inhalers treat asthma attacks and are used only when necessary. Reliever inhalers include Ventolin, Salamol, and Airomir.

  • Does Pulmicort work immediately?

The active ingredient starts to work immediately, and you will likely notice an improvement in your breathing problems within a three to five days of daily use.

  • Are different Preventer inhalers interchangeable?

No – do not switch between inhalers such as Clenil, Pulmicort, and Qvar.

Because they have slightly different active ingredients, your treatment will not be effective, and your risk of side effects will increase.

  • What does the price include?

The price includes the medication you have selected, the private consultation with our Doctor and, if the purchase is over £40, it also includes free standard delivery. Under £40, standard delivery is £2.95 and all items are sent using a Royal Mail Tracked Service.

  • How do I buy Pulmicort Turbohalers online?

    It's simple!

Just select 'Start Consultation' next to the product above, or on the links below.

You will need to fill in a simple health questionnaire so that our GPs and Pharmacists can ensure it is safe for us to supply your Pulmicort turbohalers to you. It only takes a few minutes, and your treatment can be delivered to your door as soon as the next working day.

  • How many Pulmicort Turbohalers can I buy in one purchase?

Pulmicort turbohalers are a prescription-only asthma treatment. For that reason, to ensure the safety of our patients and the legal operating of our pharmacy, we only supply a maximum of 2 inhalers at one time.

This allows us to balance offering our patients an adequate supply of treatment with regular checks on their condition, symptoms, and effectiveness of their treatment. This model ensures the perfect mix of convenience with optimal health and safety.

If you have no adverse effects and your asthma is well controlled, you can log in and easily re-order another supply.

  • What do Pulmicort Turbohalers contain?

The active ingredient in Pulmicort turbohalers is budesonide. The amount present in each inhalation will vary according to the strength of the inhaler.

  • How do Pulmicort Turbohalers work?

The budesonide contained in the inhaler enters the lungs and restricts the body's production of chemicals which cause inflammation. This eases your breathing problems and reduces your risk of an asthma attack.

  • Are Pulmicort Turbohalers available for next-day delivery?

Yes – we understand that sometimes you will want your treatment as soon as possible. If ordered before 4pm Monday to Friday, Pulmicort turbohalers are available f or next- day delivery.
