Anusol HC is an ointment used to ease the symptoms of haemorrhoids (piles). Haemorrhoids are very common and cause inflammation, pain and itching. Anusol HC provides quick and effective relief.
Anusol HC ointment differs from Anusol Cream in that it is thicker and contains the key ingredient hydrocortisone acetate. This is a natural steroid used to reduce inflammation. Generally, inflammation occurs when certain substances which are important to the immune system are released. As a result, blood vessels expand, which causes swelling, redness and pain in the affected area. Hydrocortisone acetate prevents these substances from initially being produced. When used in and around the rectum, hydrocortisone acetate reduces any swelling or itching caused by haemorrhoids.
The other active ingredients in Anusol HC ointment are bismuth subgallate, bismuth oxide, Peru balsam and zinc oxide. These ingredients combine to be astringent and mildly antiseptic. The antiseptic components lowers your risk of infection in the affected area. The astringent components help to further reduce swelling.
Anusol HC ointment is available to order safely online from The Independent Pharmacy. It will be delivered straight to your door and you will not need to visit your GP for an examination or prescription. You simply need to complete an online consultation form – this will be checked by our UK registered doctors, so that we can see if this haemorrhoid treatment is suitable for you. Once you have been approved, it will be dispatched from our pharmacy on the same day.
If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact our friendly patient support team.
Anusol HC ointment should initially be applied twice each day, and then once per day after symptoms have cleared. If you have especially severe symptoms, the ointment can be used three or four times on the first day of treatment.
Before use, wash your hands and the affected area thoroughly with water. Gently dry the skin around the anus to prevent further irritation.
For external use, take a small amount of ointment on your finger and apply it to the skin around the anus. Leave the ointment on the skin – do not rub it in.
For internal use, a nozzle is provided. Fill it by attaching it to the top of the tube – this is the recommended amount for one application. Gently insert the tip of the nozzle into the anus, and squeeze the tube such that a small amount of ointment is released. Withdraw the nozzle carefully, then use warm water to thoroughly wash both the nozzle and your hands.
Not everyone will experience side effects when they take Anusol HC ointment, however if you do they can include:
Irritation, redness, itching, burning or pain. This may occur when you apply the ointment, but should not last for very long. If it does, contact your GP.
If you are concerned about these effects, or if the product affects you in any other way, stop using it and talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
