More Information

Age: 18 years +

Priligy 30mg tablets are used to treat premature ejaculation (PE) in men aged 18 - 64. Clinical trials have shown that by using Priligy the duration of you sexual performance can increase by 200 to 300%. Priligy can be purchased from The Independent Pharmacy Online Doctor without the need for a face-to-face consultation with fast, discreet delivery.

Pharmacist Tip
  • Take short breaks during sex especially if you feel close to ejaculation. This allows you time to gain control over the urge to ejaculate.
  • Have sex with your partner on top to allow them to pull away when you are close to ejaculating.

Priligy 30mg Tablets are available to buy from The Independent Pharmacy Online Doctor service, following a free consultation, to help prevent malaria. To find out more about malaria and see all the available treatments, see our Online Doctor Premature Ejaculation page.

Priligy 30mg Tablets contain the active ingredient Dapoxetine. It is mainly used to treat the condition premature ejaculation. Priligy is manufactured by A. Menarini and are classified as a prescription-only-medicine (POM). Priligy comes in two strengths; 30mg and 60mg tablets. Each pack contains three tablets along with a comprehensive patient information leaflet.

Priligy 30mg Tablets are taken a couple of hours prior to sexual activity, providing an increase in the intra-vaginal ejaculatory latency in men. There is no set time for what classes as a premature ejaculation. However, the general consensus regards anything that lasts under two minutes to be premature. Priligy was originally developed for the treatment of depression. It has since been remarketed as a treatment for premature ejaculation, after proving to have a significant impact on the male ejaculation time. Clinical trials have shown that by using Priligy the duration of you sexual performance can increase by 200 to 300%. These drug trials also reported an increases ability to exert more control over an ejaculation, as well a greater sense of overall satisfaction.

To be able to ejaculate, a reflex must be transmitted from your brain to the sympathetic nervous system. To achieve this the body uses serotonin, which is a neurotransmitter responsible for passing messages between the nerve cells. Serotonin has numerous functions in the body, one of which is sending the necessary nerve messages that will result in an ejaculation.

The active ingredient in Priligy, Dapoxetine, belongs to a group of medicines known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). These work by increasing the activity of serotonin in the body’s nervous system, selectively inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin by the neural cells. This action stops the ejaculation expulsion reflex from reaching the brain too quickly, increasing the time it takes to ejaculate and improving control over the ejaculation.

Priligy 30mg Tablets can be prescribed online after an online assessment by a doctor to ensure they are appropriate to use. Priligy is usually prescribed for men between the ages of 18 and 64.

Please read the Patient Information Leaflet for side effects and additional information.

Pharmacist Tip: Priligy should be taken 1 – 3 hours before sex and has been shown to over double time to ejaculation and increase control over ejaculation in some men during clinical trials.

  • You should take one tablet 1 – 3 hours before sex, it is most effective if taken within this window.

  • You should never take more than one tablet of Priligy in a 24-hour period.
  • Priligy can be taken with or without food.

Fainting and low blood pressure

This medicine can make you faint or make your blood pressure drop when you stand up. To help lower the chance of this happening:

  • Take this medicine with at least one full glass of water.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are dehydrated (you do not have enough water in your body). This can happen if:
    • You have not had anything to drink in the past 4 to 6 hours
    • You have been sweating for a long time
    • You have an illness where you have a high temperature, diarrhoea or being sick.
  • If you feel like you might faint (such as feeling sick, feeling dizzy, light headed, confused, sweaty or an abnormal heart beat), or feel light headed when you stand up, immediately lie down so your head is lower than the rest of your body or sit down with your head between your knees until you feel better. This will stop you from falling and hurting yourself if you do faint.
  • Do not stand up quickly after you have been sitting or lying down for a long time.
  • Do not drive or use any tools or machines if you feel faint when taking this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you faint when taking this medicine.

What is Priligy?

Priligy is the only licensed tablet in the UK to treat premature ejaculation. This is where men ejaculate before penetration or in less than two minutes after starting sex.

It contains the active ingredient dapoxetine and is available in 30mg and 60mg strengths. Men from the ages of 18 to 64 years old can use it.

How does Priligy work?

Dapoxetine is the active ingredient in Priligy and it belongs to the family of medicines called SSRI’s (This stands for selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors). It increases the serotonin in the nervous system and this in turn improves the time it takes to ejaculate. It is not known exactly how the increased serotonin delays ejaculation.

How do I take Priligy?

If you have not had this medication before, you should start with the 30mg Priligy tablet.

Swallow one tablet whole with a full glass of water, 1 to 3 hours before sexual activity. (Drinking water after taking the tablet will reduce the likeliness of fainting or a fall in blood pressure.) Crushing or breaking the tablet will leave a bitter taste in the mouth.

If the 30mg tablet is well tolerated but its effects are insufficient, you can increase the strength to the 60mg tablet. The results are better with the 60mg tablet however there is a higher chance of side effects at this dose.

Do not take more than 1 Priligy tablet of any strength in a 24-hour period.

Is it safe to use Priligy continuously?

Priligy should only be taken before sexual activity. It should not be taken on a continual daily basis without sexual activity. No more than one {riligy tablet of either strength should be taken in 24 hours.

How do I know that Priligy is right for me?

If you suffer from an inability to maintain sexual intercourse for longer than two minutes or have a lack of control over when you ejaculate, then you may be suffering from premature ejaculation. This can have a negative impact on you and interpersonal relationships.

Priligy is the only UK licenced tablet to treat premature ejaculation. It is successful in 80% of men and can increase the time it takes to ejaculate from one minute to three to four minutes in some men. The Priligy 60mg tablet is more likely to prolong time to ejaculation significantly however there is also a greater chance of side effects.

How long will it take for Priligy to work?

The maximum effect of Priligy will be seen one to two hours after taking the tablet. After 24 hours, 95% of the medication will have been eliminated from the body.

Can I take Priligy with other medication?

Priligy can interact with a number of medicines. The medication below needs to be stopped for 14 days before Priligy can be taken and should only be started 7 days after taking Priligy:

Older style antidepressants called Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs)

Thioridazine used for schizophrenia

Medicines for depression

Lithium − for bipolar disorder

Linezolid − an antibiotic used to treat infections

Tryptophan − to help you sleep

St John’s Wort − a herbal medicine

Tramadol − used to treat serious pain

Any medicines used to treat migraines.

Ketoconazole and itraconazole - antifungals

Ritonavir, saquinavir, nelfinavir and atazanavir – used to treat HIV

Telithromycin - an antibiotic

Nefazodone − an antidepressant.

Who cannot take Priligy?

Priligy is not recommended for men with the following:

  • Liver or severe kidney problems
  • Low blood pressure and/or have a history of fainting
  • Severe depression
  • Heart problems
  • A history of mania

Priligy should not be taken if you are taking any of the medicines detailed above.

How long will Priligy last for?

Priligy is absorbed and starts to work quickly reaching a maximum concentration in the body after one to two hours of being taken.

It is eliminated very quickly and after 24 hours, 95% of the drug will have been removed from the body.

How effective is Priligy?

Around 80% of men taking Priligy see an improvement in the time it takes them to reach ejaculation. The results are slightly higher with the 60mg strength but there is also a higher chance of side effects with this dose.

Where can I buy Priligy?

Priligy is a prescription-strength medicine meaning it can only be obtained or purchased from a pharmacy or doctor that has the appropriate registration in the UK. Priligy can be prescribed for you by your own GP or it can be purchased from a regulated online pharmacy like The Independent Pharmacy. You should never buy medicines from abroad, unregulated sources or sites like Ebay.

Can I take Priligy and drink alcohol?

If Priligy is taken after drinking alcohol, it can increase feelings of dizziness, drowsiness and slow reactions.

Priligy can temporally lower your blood pressure or cause you to faint. For these reasons it is not recommended to take Priligy and drink alcohol together.

Is Priligy available as the generic or unbranded version?

Menarini is the only manufacturer who has the license to produce Priligy tablets (dapoxetine 30mg & 60mg).

Until the exclusive license expires it is only available as branded Priligy and there is no unbranded or generic version available.

Can you take Priligy and Viagra together?

Priligy can be taken with erectile dysfunction medication like Viagra, Cialis and Levitra. However you should be in a position where you can lie or sit down if you feel faint or light headed the first few times you take them together (fainting or light-headedness tends to occur more frequently when standing up).

Both medicines have the ability to lower your blood pressure and if you get a light-headed feeling it is best to leave 24 hours between taking Priligy with Viagra, SIldenafil or Levitra. You should leave 48 hours between taking Priligy and Cialis.

How can I check the Priligy I have is genuine?

All our Priligy and other medication is sourced from the main pharmaceutical wholesaler responsible for supplying half the pharmacies in the UK.

We only supply genuine UK-branded medication. You can check that it is genuine using the manufacturers online facility or by calling them to confirm the batch number, expiry date and country of purchase.

What other premature ejaculation medications are there?

Priligy is the only licensed tablet to treat premature ejaculation in men but a topical treatment called Emla cream is also available.

Emla is a cream containing two different local anaesthetics that is applied to the penis 15 to 20 minutes before sexual activity.
