Low fat foods to eat whilst taking Orlistat

Orlistat is most effective when used with a nutrient-rich and calorie-controlled diet. Each meal must contain 1-15 grams of fat, and fat should account for no more than 30% of the daily calorie intake. For example, if your daily calorie allowance is 1500, then fat should equate to no more than 450 calories, or if it’s 1200, then fat should be no more than 360 calories.

Here's a simple list of foods to fill up on and focus your meals around, and also some that you should try to avoid due to their high fat content.

Lower fat foods to choose more often:

  • Porridge
  • Boiled/poached eggs
  • Low-fat/plain fat-free yoghurts
  • White fish such as cod or plaice / Chicken with skin removed
  • Meat alternatives like soya, tofu, Quorn
  • Potatoes, pasta, rice or noodles
