Fucibet Cream Summary

About Fucibet Cream

Fucibet Cream is a prescription-strength topical treatment (applied directly to the skin). It is effective for treating infected inflammatory skin conditions. Its dual-action formula combines an antibiotic and corticosteroid in one cream, providing relief from symptoms while also fighting the infection that caused them.

How Does Fucibet Cream Work?

Fucibet works in two ways. Firstly, the active ingredient fusidic acid stops bacteria from producing the proteins they need to multiply and cause your infection to worsen or spread. The second active ingredient, betamethasone, reduces inflammation by interacting with chemicals in the skin called inflammatory mediators.

How To Use Fucibet Cream

Apply a thin layer to the affected area twice a day for up to fourteen days. Measure by applying enough cream to cover your fingertip. This is called a "fingertip" unit.

By rule of thumb, you should use the following fingertip units for each area:

  • face: two and a half fingertip units
  • back: seven fingertip units
  • front: seven fingertip units
  • arms (not including hands): three fingertip units each
  • hands (both sides): one fingertip unit
  • legs (not including feet): six fingertip units each
  • feet: two fingertip units each

While you can apply other creams on top of Fucibet, you should wait for at least 30 minutes before doing so.

Ingredients

Fucibet has two active ingredients. These are fusidic acid (2%) and betamethasone valerate (0.1%).

Other inactive ingredients include macrogol cetostearyl ether, cetostearyl alcohol, chlorocresol, liquid paraffin, sodium dihydrogen phosphate, white soft paraffin, all-rac-α-tocopherol, purified water and sodium hydroxide.

Side Effects

Like all medications, Fucibet Cream has been known to cause some side effects, although not everyone will experience them.

Rare side effects include skin reactions at the application site such as itching, rashes or a burning / stinging sensation.

Stop using Fucibet Cream immediately and contact your doctor if you experience allergic reactions. Symptoms of an allergic reaction to Fucibet Cream include swelling of your throat or face, severe rashes or difficulty breathing.

You can read more about Fucibet cream side effects here.

Warnings

We recommend that you do not use Fucibet Cream for more than two weeks, as this should prevent the bacteria from becoming resistant to the antibiotic and mean that the treatment works again in the future if you require it. Longer use also increases the risk of side effects or infections. If you see no improvement in your symptoms after seven days, consult your doctor.

If the cream gets into your eyes, wash them immediately with cold water and use an eyebath if possible as exposure to the ingredients within the cream may lead to a risk of glaucoma - an eye condition that could affect your eyesight.

This product contains flammable ingredients. Use caution around naked flames after applying Fucibet Cream.

Do not use Fucibet on open wounds or sensitive areas (including your nostrils, ears, lips or genitals), broken veins or acne unless told to by your doctor or pharmacist.

If you take other medications, consult your doctor before using Fucibet Cream.

Do not use this cream if you are pregnant, or intend to become pregnant in the near future unless you are told to do so by your doctor. While Fucibet Cream can be used if you are breastfeeding, it should not be used on the breasts themselves.

Please read all packaging and the Patient Information Leaflet before taking any new medicine and inform your doctor of medicines you are taking or intend to take.
