What is Crystacide Cream?

Crystacide Cream is a topical medication that contains hydrogen peroxide as its active ingredient. It is commonly used for its antiseptic properties, which help prevent infection and promote wound healing and also to treat impetigo.

Crystacide Cream alternatives

There are several alternatives for wound care and skin disinfection. Some of the commonly used alternatives include:

Chlorhexidine Solution: Chlorhexidine is an antiseptic solution that is effective against a wide range of bacteria, viruses, and fungi. It is often used as an alternative to hydrogen peroxide for wound cleansing and skin disinfection.

Antibiotic Ointments: Antibiotic ointments containing ingredients such as fucidin and mupirocin are often used to prevent infection in minor cuts, scrapes, and burns. These ointments work by killing bacteria and preventing them from multiplying.

Oral Antibiotics: If the condition is more severe we can offer oral flucloxacillin treatment which can be effective for treating impetigo and cellulitis.

How to use Crystacide Cream

To effectively use Crystacide Cream, follow these steps:

1. Clean the affected area: Gently wash the affected skin with mild soap and water. Pat it dry with a clean towel.
2. Apply a thin layer: Use a clean fingertip or sterile applicator to apply a thin layer of Crystacide Cream directly onto the affected area. Ensure complete coverage but avoid excessive application.
3. Cover (if necessary): Depending on the severity of the wound, you may need to cover the treated area with a sterile dressing or bandage. This helps protect the area and keeps the cream in place.
4. Repeat as directed: Typically, Crystacide Cream is applied once or twice daily.
5. Wash hands: After applying the cream, thoroughly wash your hands to remove any residue and prevent spreading the medication to unintended areas.
6. Continue treatment: Use Crystacide Cream for the full duration of the prescribed treatment, even if symptoms improve before completion. Stopping prematurely may allow the infection to return.
7. Monitor for reactions: While using Crystacide Cream, watch for any signs of allergic reactions or skin irritation, such as redness, itching, or swelling. If you experience any adverse effects, stop using it immediately.

The usual dosage for Crystacide Cream to treat impetigo to is apply to the affected area two to three times daily for five to seven days.

• Contact with the eyes should be avoided
• Crystacide Cream should not be used on large or deep wounds and should not be applied to healthy skin
• Hydrogen peroxide can bleach fabrics
• Salicylic acid is a mild irritant and can cause dermatitis
• Crystacide Cream also contains propylene glycol which may cause skin irritation
