Naseptin Nasal Cream summary
About Naseptin Cream
Naseptin is a dual-action antiseptic and antibiotic cream. It is a smooth white cream that comes in 15g aluminium tubes. Naseptin is designed to treat nasal bacterial infections. These infections are usually caused by Staphylococcus aureus bacteria and can cause painful red bumps prone to bleeding and weeping, resulting in both frequent nosebleeds and irritation.
Naseptin's dual-action formula not only eradicates the bacteria living in the skin of your nasal cavity but also helps to prevent re-infection. The powerful yet gentle formulation is designed for nasal use only. Applying Naseptin Cream to bacterial skin infections elsewhere on the body may result in adverse skin reactions such as contact dermatitis.
How Does Naseptin Work?
Naseptin Nasal Cream's dual-action formula works by targeting the bacteria that cause the infection, preventing them from being able to reproduce.
It contains two active ingredients – chlorhexidine and neomycin.
Chlorhexidine binds to the cell walls of the bacteria, disrupting the cell membranes and causing the contents of the cell to leak out, effectively tearing the cell apart.
Neomycin, on the other hand, works by preventing bacteria from growing by inhibiting them from synthesising the proteins they need to grow.
Together, these active ingredients help to kill bacteria while also preventing re-infection.
How To Use Naseptin
Always use Naseptin Nasal Cream as directed by your healthcare provider.
Wash and dry your hands before and after applying.
Place a small amount on the tip of your little finger and carefully apply the cream to the inside of one nostril. Repeat this for the other nostril.
When treating an active infection, repeat this process four times a day. If you're trying to prevent an infection, repeat twice a day.
Treatment is usually prescribed for ten days. Make sure you continue applying Naseptin throughout the full course, even if your symptoms improve. Stopping your course early could increase your risk of re-infection.
Ingredients
The active ingredients of Naseptin Nasal Cream are chlorhexidine dihydrochloride (0.1%) w/w and neomycin sulfate 0.5% w/w.
Other ingredients in the cream include medium-chain triglycerides, cetostearyl alcohol/ethylene oxide condensate, cetostearyl alcohol and water.
Side Effects
Like all medications, Naseptin Nasal Cream has some risk of side effects. These are usually mild and temporary and not everyone will experience them.
The most common include irritation (redness or itching) or discolouration of your skin where the cream was applied, temporary changes in your sense of smell or taste. In some rare cases, people using Naseptin for long periods will experience hearing problems (a rare side effect of topical neomycin). This is why it is so important to only use this medication as prescribed.
In some very rare cases, people experience kidney problems (including pain when urinating or blood in their urine).
If you experience any side effects of Naseptin, stop using it immediately and talk to a member of our clinical team. They will be able to advise you on an alternative treatment.
If you experience any symptoms of allergic reaction, including severe redness or blistering of your skin, difficulty breathing, dizziness, or swelling of the face, mouth or tongue seek immediate medical attention.
Warnings
Do not use Naseptin Nasal Cream if you are allergic to chlorhexidine dihydrochloride, neomycin sulfate or any of the other ingredients it contains.
This medication contains cetostearyl alcohol, which can cause irritation on the site where it is applied (contact dermatitis). Always use on clean, dry skin. If Naseptin is combined with certain soaps, it may not work properly.
Avoid getting Naseptin on your clothes. If this occurs, avoid using bleach to remove it, as this can result in permanent staining.
Please read all packaging and the Patient Information Leaflet before taking any new medicine.
Naseptin Nasal Cream reviews
How Does Naseptin Work To Clear Nose Infections?
Nose infections are caused by the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus. These bacteria live on human skin and are often harmless. However, when the bacteria gets into broken or damaged skin, it can cause infections.
Naseptin has a dual-action formulation that uses antiseptic and antibiotic active ingredients (chlorhexidine and neomycin). Chlorhexidine destroys cell membranes, effectively tearing them apart. Neomycin prevents bacteria from reproducing by preventing them from being able to form the proteins needed for growth.
Together, these active ingredients eliminate infection at the source while also preventing re-infection. This means that Naseptin can be used both to clear and prevent nasal infections.
Can You Use Too Much Naseptin?
Yes. Overusing Naseptin by applying too much or using it for longer than prescribed can increase your risk of side effects. It can lead to mild allergic reactions including redness and irritation of the skin inside your nose, or in some cases it can lead to a diminished sense of taste or smell or even hearing loss.
Always use Naseptin as directed by your healthcare provider.
Can I Apply Naseptin With A Cotton Bud?
Yes, Naseptin can be applied to your nose (or another person's). Apply gently and carefully and avoid pushing the cotton bud up into your nasal cavity. Press the sides of your nose to help spread the cream around the inside of your nostrils.
How Long Should I Use Naseptin For?
You should only ever use Naseptin for the period prescribed by our clinical team or your healthcare provider. This is usually ten days. Avoid using Naseptin for longer than prescribed as this can increase your risk of side effects. At the same time, however, you should complete the course of Naseptin, even if your symptoms improve before it is over.
Can Naseptin Cream Help With Nosebleeds?
Yes, Naseptin can help with nosebleeds caused by bacterial infections. Staphylococcus bacteria can infect broken or damaged skin in the nasal cavity and cause painful bumps that are prone to bleeding. If this infection is the source of the bleeding, Naseptin can kill the bacteria that cause nosebleeds and prevent them from reoccurring.
How Often Should I Apply Naseptin?
If you are using Naseptin Nasal Cream to treat an existing bacterial infection, you should apply it four times a day for as long as directed. If you are trying to prevent a bacterial infection, applying Naseptin twice a day should keep the bacteria at bay.
Is There Anyone That Shouldn’t Use Naseptin?
You should not use Nadeptin Nasal Cream if you are allergic to chlorhexidine dihydrochloride, neomycin sulfate or any of the other ingredients contained in its formula.
While Naseptin is generally well-tolerated by adults, you should speak to a member of our clinical team if you regularly take any other medications,or are pregnant or breastfeeding.
What Causes Nasal Infections?
Nasal infections are typically caused by the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus. While this is often harmless to our skin, it can infect broken skin, leading to red, bleeding or pustulent bumps inside your nostrils.
This most often happens when people excessively pick their noses (especially with sharp nails that can tear their skin), or when people blow their noses to excess or pluck their nasal hairs with sharp tweezers.
Can I Use Other Medications With Naseptin?
Yes, Naseptin is generally well-tolerated alongside other medications. However, you should inform a member of our clinical team if you regularly take any other medications just to be on the safe side.
How Can I Buy Naseptin Cream Online?
If you're ready to say goodbye to the irritation, bleeding and soreness that often come with nasal infections, Naseptin Nasal Cream can banish the bacteria that cause infection, soothing the symptoms while preventing re-infection.
