Get relief from unpleasant cold sore symptoms with this easy to use, effective anti-viral treatment.

For best results, Fenistil Cold Sore Cream should be applied in two-hourly intervals during waking hours (about 8 times a day), for 4 days. If the condition worsens or does not improve after 4 days, consult your doctor.

Fenistil is manufactured by Omega Pharma and is available in discreet 2g tubes. This medicine is suitable for adults and children over the age of 12 years and is easily carried around in a pocket or bag making it quick to use whenever you need it.

    What is a cold sore?

Cold sores are small blistered or crusty areas of skin that usually affect the skin around the lips and mouth. Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus and are very contagious. Once you have caught this virus there is, unfortunately, no cure, however, there are some very effective treatments available that can reduce the severity and duration of a flare-up of cold sores. Cold sores are only contagious when you actively have symptoms.

For more information regarding cold sores please see our Advice for Cold Sores page.

How does Fenistil Cold Sore Cream work?

Fenistil contains the active ingredient Penciclovir (1%), an antiviral medication that prevents the cold sore virus from multiplying and infecting surrounding cells. Fenistil Cold Sore Cream will heal your cold sore faster and the duration of your pain will be shorter. The cold sore will also be infectious for a shorter amount of time, although it will not prevent contagiousness.

    Fenistil Cold Sore Cream alternatives

Other medications that treat cold sores include Aciclovir Cream, Aciclovir Tablets and Compeed Cold Sore Patches.

If you are suffering from the herpes simplex virus that affects any other area of your body, including genital herpes, at The Independent Pharmacy we stock a range of effective treatments and offer further guidance on our Advice for Genital Herpes page.
