Clarityn Allergy Syrup information

  • What is Clarityn Syrup used for?

Clarityn Syrup provides up to 24 hours of relief from hay fever and other allergies. Clarityn Syrup can relieve a variety of allergies like those caused by pets and dust, as well as hay fever and skin allergies like rashes, itching, and hives. Each 5ml of syrup contains 5mg of loratadine.

    How does Clarityn Syrup work?

Clarityn Allergy Syrup helps to reduce allergy symptoms by blocking the effects of a chemical called histamine, which is produced in the body when you are allergic to something. For people with hay fever, coming into contact with pollen releases histamine which causes inflammation and irritation, especially in the eyes and sinuses. Clarityn blocks the release of histamine and therefore prevents the symptoms from occurring.

When should Clarityn Allergy Syrup be taken?

Clarityn Allergy Syrup relieves symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis (for example, hayfever), such as sneezing, runny or itchy nose and burning or itchy eyes in adults and children over the age of 2 years. The syrup may also be used to help relieve symptoms of urticaria (itching and redness), which is often known as hives or nettle rash. The effect of Clarityn Syrup will last a whole day and should help you to continue your normal daily activities and sleep.

    Clarityn Syrup alternatives

Millions of people suffer from hay fever (a seasonal condition caused by an allergic reaction to pollen) every year, but fortunately, there are a number of effective hay fever treatments available.

Clarityn Allergy Syrup is specially formulated for children aged 2 and over. If you’re looking for hay fever treatments for children under the age of 2, you can try one of the following:

  • How do I use Clarityn Allergy Syrup?

Clarityn Allergy Syrup should be taken orally using the spoon provided to ensure the correct dose.

    • Children of 2 to 12 years who weigh 30kg (4st 7lb) or less - 5ml - once daily
    • Children of 2 to 12 years who weigh more than 30kg (4st 7lb) - 10ml - once daily
    • Adults and children over 12 years - 10ml - once daily

It is important to know how much your child weighs to make sure that you give them the correct amount of medicine. For example, a 9-year-old child weighs about 30kg (4st 7lb). If in doubt weigh your child and then follow the instructions included in the Patient Information Leaflet attached to this product.

Who is Clarityn Syrup suitable for?

Clarityn Allergy Syrup for Kids is specially formulated so that it’s suitable for children aged 2 and over; it is not recommended for children under the age of 2. For infants, Piriton Syrup may be a suitable alternative treatment. Alternatively, consult your GP about the best allergy treatments for younger children.
