Movicol (Chocolate)

They are not absorbed in to the body but instead draw water in to the bowel to soften and increase its volume. This helps the body pass the stool.

Reading the following warnings carefully will help to ensure you are selecting an appropriate product. In case you take more Movicol sachets than recommended, you might develop diarrhoea. You should discontinue taking the treatment until diarrhoea clears, and then restart again at a lower dosage. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you get concerned with the effect. Avoid using this medication if you are allergic to the ingredients or if you have ileus, gut obstruction (blockage in your intestine), or a heart condition, or perforated gut wall or serious inflammatory bowel disease such as toxic megacolon, ulcerative colitis or Crohn?s disease. Ensure that you follow the instructions carefully to ensure you take the right dosage, especially if you are treating faecal impaction. Consult your doctor before taking this treatment during pregnancy or lactation. Movicol treatment does not affect your ability to use machines or to drive. If you have recently taken or you are currently taking any other medication, including drugs obtained without a prescription, consult your pharmacist or doctor before taking Movicol sachets. Please read all packaging and the Product Information Leaflet before taking any new medicine and inform your doctor of medicines you are taking or intend to take.

Adults, including the elderly and children 12 years and over:
Take the sachets at any time of the day with or without food.
When treating constipation, take one sachet 1 to 3 times each day according to the severity of the condition.
When treating faecal impaction, take a total of eight sachets within 6 hours for up to 3 days, if needed. Avoid taking more than 2 sachets in one hour if you have a heart condition.

In case you miss to take Movicol, you should take the treatment as soon as you remember.

How to mix:
Pour the contents of the sachet in a glass. Add a quarter pint of water or about 125ml to the powder in the glass. Mix until the powder gets dissolved and the solution is a little hazy or clear, and then drink the solution.
If you are taking this solution to treat faecal impaction, dissolve the recommended dosage of 8 sachets in 1 litre of water.
Treatment Duration:
Treatment duration for faecal impaction can be for up to 3 days.
Treatment for constipation should last for about 2 weeks. Consult your doctor if you need to take this treatment for a longer duration.
However, your doctor might recommend that you take the treatment for more than 2 weeks, if you are taking medications that cause constipation, or if your constipation has been caused by an illness such as multiple sclerosis or Parkinson?s disease. In case you require such long term treatment, the dose is usually reduced to either 1 or 2 sachets each day.

The active ingredients contained in this medicine is/are:
Macrogol 3350: 13.125g, potassium chloride 0.0317g, Sodium Chloride: 0.35g, Sodium hydrogen carbonate: 0.1785g.

The medicine also contains the following inactive ingredients to make up the complete product:
Acesulfame potassium (E950)
Chocolate flavour*
(*Chocolate flavour contains maltodextrin, acacia gum E414, vegetable oils and fats, propylene glycol E1520 and ethyl alcohol)

Not everyone will experience side effects when they take medication, however if you do they can include:
When you start taking Movicol treatment, you might develop mild diarrhoea. Some individuals experience allergic reactions, stomach pain or rumbles, or feel sick or bloated.
In case you get puffy ankles or you feel breathless, weak, tired, thirsty accompanied by a headache, you should discontinue taking the treatment and consult your doctor immediately
