Minoxidil Tablets - Available Online
Minoxidil is formulated to stimulate hair growth and slow balding. It does this by opening your blood vessels, increasing blood flow to your hair follicles and supplying them with more oxygen, vitamins and minerals. This extra nutrition helps to keep your hair follicles healthy, supporting normal hair growth.
Minoxidil is mainly used to treat male and female pattern hair loss. If you have this type of hair loss, you may notice your hairline begin to recede, or see a bald spot appear on the top of your head. Male and female pattern baldness commonly starts between the ages of 30 and 40. However you may begin to notice your hair becoming thinner as early as your late teens or early 20s.
Minoxidil can also be used to treat other types of hair loss such as telogen effluvium, traction alopecia and loose anagen syndrome.
About Minoxidil Oral Hair Loss Treatment
Minoxidil is an oral treatment. This means that the medication comes in tablet form and you take it by swallowing a tablet, or part of a tablet, with a glass of water. You may find oral medications, like Loniten, more convenient and less messy than topical hair loss treatments.
Minoxidil, the active ingredient in Loniten, works by dilating, or opening up, your blood vessels. This makes it easier for blood to flow to your hair follicles, supplying them with the oxygen and nutrients they need to stay healthy and support normal hair growth.
How Does Minoxidil Work?
Minoxidil was originally developed to treat high blood pressure. It works by relaxing the blood vessels in your body, allowing blood to flow more easily.
This helps to lower your blood pressure. It also allows more blood to flow to your hair follicles, giving them the oxygen and the nutrients they need to stay healthy. Keeping hair follicles healthy may support normal hair growth and could work to prevent hair loss and thinning.
How To Use Loniten (Minoxidil) Hair Loss Treatment
The dose of Minoxidil that you’re prescribed will depend on your symptoms, age, weight and overall health. A common starting dose is 0.625mg per day for women and 1.25mg per day for men. This may be adjusted depending on how you respond to the medication.
Swallow your dose of Loniten with a glass of water. The medication can be taken with or without food. Try to take your dose at roughly the same time every day to keep levels of the medication stable in your system.
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue taking the medication as normal.
Ingredients
Each tablet contains either 2.5mg, 5mg or 10mg of Minoxidil. The other ingredients contained in the tablets are lactose hydrous, microcrystalline cellulose, starch, colloidal silicon dioxide and magnesium stearate.
Side Effects
Like all medications, Minoxidil may cause side effects in some people. The most common side effects of the medication are increased heart rate, inflammation of the lining that surrounds your heart, abnormal ECG (electrocardiogram), increased hair growth and changes to hair colour. You may also experience a build up of fluid around your heart.
Contact your doctor immediately if you feel faint or dizzy (especially when you stand up), your body begins holding onto more water than usual causing swelling in your ankles or fingers, or you experience pains in your chest (angina) for the first time.
Warnings
It’s essential to tell your doctor or pharmacist if you’re pregnant or trying to become pregnant, have heart failure or have ever had a heart attack.
Minoxidil tablets encourage salt and water to remain in your body. Too much salt and water in the body could make you feel breathless, wheezy, sick and tired. It can also stop Minoxidil from working properly. The medication may also cause your heart to beat faster.
To avoid these issues, your doctor may prescribe other medications for you to take alongside Minoxidil. They may also recommend a low salt diet and may monitor your blood pressure and heart health to ensure you don’t experience any potentially dangerous side effects.
How Long Does Minoxidil Take To Work?
Typically, it takes between four and six months to see visible results from Minoxidil. Some people actually notice an increase in hair loss after starting treatment with Loniten. If this happens to you, try not to worry, it’s a normal side effect of the medication and should stop after around four to six weeks of treatment.
To get the best results from Minoxidil, it’s important that you take the medication regularly and at roughly the same time each day. This will help to keep levels of Minoxidil steady in your system, aiding hair regrowth.
If you stop using Minoxidil, it’s likely that the hair that has regrown will begin to thin once more. You may see your hair loss resume within three to six months.
Can Minoxidil Stop My Hair Loss?
Minoxidil has been shown to reduce shedding and stimulate hair growth in people experiencing various types of hair loss. However, it’s important to remember that the medication doesn’t work for everyone, and you may not see any noticeable improvements from the treatment.
In general, Minoxidil may work slightly better for men than for women, though the treatment has been shown to be effective in treating both male and female pattern baldness.
Is Minoxidil Safe To Use?
Minoxidil is generally well-tolerated by most people. However, it’s not suitable for everyone and it’s essential that you speak to a member of our clinical team before taking the medication. Minoxidil may not be suitable for you if you’re pregnant, breastfeeding or planning to become pregnant. It may also be unsuitable if you have heart failure, have experienced a heart attack, or have kidney issues.
What Happens If I Stop Using Minoxidil?
Minoxidil products like Loniten are a long-term treatment for hair loss and, if you stop using the medication,, your hair may begin to shed once more. In most cases, hair loss will return to pre-treatment levels within around three to six months.
Can Women Use Minoxidil?
Yes, women can use Minoxidil. However it’s not recommended for anyone who is pregnant, breastfeeding or planning to become pregnant. Women may also see less significant results than men when using Loniten.
Will Minoxidil Work On A Receding Hairline?
Minoxidil may treat your receding hairline if you start taking it early. Though it may not stop hair loss altogether, the medication could help to improve hair density and slow thinning on your hairline and scalp.
What Should I Do If I Miss a Dose?
If you miss a dose of Minoxidil, you should take it as soon as you remember. However, if it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue taking the medication as normal. Never take two doses of Minoxidil at the same time as this could increase your risk of developing side effects.
Is Minoxidil Bad For Organs?
Minoxidil, the active ingredient in Loniten, was originally developed to help manage high blood pressure. If left untreated, high blood pressure could damage the blood vessels of the brain, heart and kidneys, resulting in serious health issues.
Minoxidil hasn’t been shown to damage organs. Though it may cause the membrane around the heart to become inflamed and could cause fluid to accumulate under the membrane. Your doctor should monitor you for symptoms of these conditions during your treatment.
What Happens If I Experience Side Effects?
Like all medications, Loniten may cause side effects, some of which could be serious. The most common side effects of Minoxidil are an increased heart rate, inflammation of the lining that surrounds the heart, abnormal electrocardiogram (ECG), increased hair growth and changes to hair colour.
If you feel dizzy or faint, especially when you stand up, find your body is retaining more water than usual or notice chest pains (angina) for the first time, or a worsening of angina symptoms, it’s important to contact a doctor immediately.
If you’re concerned about any of the symptoms you’re experiencing, speak to a member of our clinical team.
