Omacor capsules contain Omega-3 fatty acids. These are essential fatty acids, which are naturally found in fish oils. They have a number of positive effects on your circulatory system and overall health. Because the body cannot produce essential fatty acids, they must be acquired through your diet. Omacor provides a dose of Omega-3 fatty acids, which is more purified and concentrated than can be obtained through your diet.
Omacor capsules are primarily effective at reducing the level of triglycerides in the blood. Triglycerides are fatty substances that can clog your arteries and cause complications of the heart and pancreas.
Omega-3 fatty acids will also lower your risk of blood clots by decreasing the presence of thromboxane in the blood, which can in turn reduce your risk of having a heart attack. Omacor is most often prescribed to people who have already had a heart attack, but is also prescribe if you have a high risk of heart problems due to high triglyceride levels.
To find your recommended intake of Omega-3, visit the NHS Choices website. If you are not eating enough oily fish to meet your requirements, you may be advised to take an Omega-3 supplement such as Omacor.
Some people can have high levels of both triglyceride and cholesterol, though they are not necessarily connected. If you also have high cholesterol levels, you may need to take Omacor as well as another medicine which lowers cholesterol.
Importantly, dietary supplements are only a component of what you can do to reduce your risk of heart disease. We advise that you make other dietary and lifestyle changes as well.
Why choose The Independent Pharmacy?
