As with any medicine, you should consult your pharmacist before taking Actifed to ensure it is safe in combination with any other medicines that you may be taking.
Actifed is unsuitable for you if you are currently taking or have recently taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI). This includes certain antidepressants and medicines for Parkinson’s disease. Pseudoephridine may interact with these medicines in such a way that dangerously increases blood pressure.
Certain other medicines may also interact with pseudoephridine in such a way that increases blood pressure. These include:
- Certain stimulants
- Appetite suppressants
- Linezolid
- Tricyclic antidepressants
- Other decongestants
Actifed may impact the effectiveness of medicines which reduce blood pressure.
Triprolidine may impact the effectiveness of betahistine and histamine treatments. As Actifed may cause drowsiness, it is advised not to take it alongside medicines which also cause drowsiness, including:
- Alcohol
- Benzodiazepines
- Other sedating antihistamines
- Opioid painkillers
- Sleeping tablets
