Naprosyn 250mg EC Tablets information

  • Naprosyn is a branded version of the anti inflammatory pain killer Naproxen. Its available to buy online through The Independent Pharmacy after a short online consultation.
Naprosyn relieves pain and inflammation in adults with the following conditions:
    Osteoarthritis
    Rheumatoid arthritis
Arthritis affecting the joints of the spine (ankylosing spondylitis)
Muscle and skeleton disorders such as tendinitis, sprains, strains, neck pain, back pain
    Acute gout
    Period pain.
Naprosyn is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It blocks an enzyme in the body called cyclo-oxygenase (COX). COX helps produce substances in the body called prostaglandins in response to injury and certain diseases. Prostaglandins cause swelling, pain and inflammation. By reducing prostaglandin production, Naprosyn lessens inflammation and pain.
Naprosyn relieves pain and inflammation after a single dose, however its anti-inflammatory effect builds up over a few weeks of regular doses.
Naprosyn is especially effective at easing menstrual pain. This is because the prostaglandins that it reduces are involved in contracting the womb contract during a period.
You should take Naprosyn with or after food to avoid irritating the stomach and causing indigestion.
Certain types of Naprosyn tablets, however’ are ‘gastro-resistant’, designed with a coating to protect the stomach. You can take these Naprosyn tablets with or without food, but you should swallow them whole, with a drink. Do not break, crush or chew these tablets as this will damage the coating. Also, don’t take antacids in the two hours before or after taking these tablets; they will prevent the protective coat from working.

If your pain is long-term or ongoing, (for example, if you are recovering from an injury or have arthritis), your doctor may suggest that you take Naprosyn every day for improved anti-inflammatory effect and more consistent pain relief. If you are taking Naprosyn long-term, your doctor may also prescribe a medication to protect your stomach.

Naprosyn can be taken alongside paracetamol as well as opioid painkillers such as codeine, tramadol, co-codamol, or morphine alongside Naprosyn. However, Naprosyn cannot be taken with aspirin or other anti-inflammatory painkillers (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen or diclofena, as this increases the possibility of side effects on the stomach and intestines. If you take selective COX-2 inhibitors such as celecoxib or etoricoxib, do not take Naprosyn for the same reason.

Be sure to check the ingredients of other medicine before taking them with Naprosyn. Cold and flu remedies and over-the-counter painkillers may contain ibuprofen or aspirin and therefore should not be combined with Naprosyn. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
It’s also best to check with your pharmacist before using an anti-inflammatory gel (such as diclofenac, ibuprofen, ketoprofen or piroxicam) alongside Naprosyn taken by mouth, because the combination might be dangerous for you.

Inform your doctor or pharmacist about any other medicines that you take, including herbal medicines and those bought without a prescription before taking Naprosyn. This is especially important if you’re taking any of the medicines mentioned below.
You have a higher risk of ulceration or bleeding in your gut if you take Naprosyn with steroids such as prednisolone. You may also have a higher risk of bleeding in the gut if you take Naprosyn with other medicines that increase the risk of bleeding, such as those below. If you take any of these medications, you should only take Naprosyn with your doctor’s approval:
Anticoagulant medications such as warfarin, apixaban, dabigatran, edoxaban, heparin, rivaroxaban and low molecular weight heparins like enoxaparin
Antiplatelet medications e.g. dipyridamole, prasugrel, clopidogrel, low-dose aspirin
    Erlotinib
    Ginko biloba
    Iloprost
SSRI antidepressants, e.g. fluoxetine, citalopram, paroxetine. venlafaxine
You may increase your risk of kidney side effects if you take Naprosyn with any of the following medicines:
    ACE inhibitors, e.g. captopril, enalapril
    Ciclosporin
    Diuretics, e.g. furosemide
    Tacrolimus
Naprosyn may decrease the removal of the following medicines from the body and therefore may increase the risk of their side effects:
    Digoxin
    Methotrexate
Lithium Naprosyn may counteract the effects of blood pressure lowering medications, such as:
    ACE inhibitors such as captopril
    Calcium-channel blocker such as amlodipine
    Beta-blockers such as atenolol
Naprosyn taken in combination with quinolone antibiotics (ciprofloxacin or norfloxacin) may carry an increased risk of seizures, particularly for people with epilepsy.
Probenecid may interfere with Naprosyn’s removal from the body. If you take this combination, inform your doctor if you believe you experience Naprosyn side effects; he/she may need to lower your dose.

Many medicines available over the counter contain aspirin or other medicines similar to naproxen (such as ibuprofen or ketoprofen). Taking certain products together can cause you to get too much of this type of medication. Check the label to see if a medicine contains naproxen, aspirin, ibuprofen, or ketoprofen.

Avoid exposure to sunlight or tanning beds. Naprosyn can make you sunburn more easily. Wear protective clothing and use sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) when you are outdoors.
