Cetraben Cream Information

What is Cetraben Cream?

Cetraben cream is a very popular emollient used in eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis and other conditions that cause dry, itchy, flaky skin. It can be bought over-the-counter or prescribed as a daily moisturising treatment to prevent flare-ups of common skin conditions.

Cetraben cream is manufactured by Thornton & Ross and is suitable for vegans (it is animal cruelty free). It is fragrance-free and available in three different sizes - 50ml, 200ml, & 475ml pumps.

What is Cetraben Cream used for?

Cetraben Cream should be used regularly to keep the skin healthy and prevent flare-ups for common chronic skin conditions, such as eczema or psoriasis. Normally, this means applying it to areas prone to becoming dry, cracked, or flaky at least twice daily.

It can also be used during a flare-up to moisturise and soothe skin that has become irritated or red.

How to apply Cetraben cream

  • Apply Cetraben Cream as often as required to hydrate skin throughout the day, ensuring the area is well covered. This is normally two to four times daily, depending on use of other emollient products.
  • Apply gently in the direction of hair growth.
  • Avoid vigorously rubbing the cream in as this could make your skin hotter and aggravate the condition.
  • Apply your moisturiser before and after you bathe or shower to protect against dry skin.

How to prime your Cetraben Cream pump:

  1. Remove the tamper evident clip
  2. Place fingertip over the nozzle
  3. Fully depress the pump several times to expel any air
  4. Check cream is being dispensed. If not, repeat steps 2-4

Cetraben Cream warnings

Cetraben can be flammable

Cetraben cream contains liquid paraffin which is highly flammable. You should keep away from open or gas fires or hobs and naked flames, including candles etc. and not to smoke when using Cetraben.

Bedding and clothing should be washed regularly (preferably daily) to minimise the build-up of impregnated paraffin although it may not be completely removed, unless it is washed at a high temperature as paraffin is invisible and can accumulate over time.

Allergies and reactions

Do not use Cetraben if you are allergic to any of the ingredients. Mild skin reactions, such as redness and rash, have been seen very rarely, should this occur, use of the product should be stopped. In the unlikely event of side-effects, you should talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

As with any medicines, you should carefully read all product packaging and labels prior to use.

Cetraben should be applied to external skin only.
