About the Bimizza Contraceptive Pill

What Is Bimizza?

Bimizza is a combined oral contraceptive pill that’s designed to prevent pregnancy. The medication contains synthetic oestrogen and progesterone. These hormones stop your ovaries releasing eggs, thicken the mucus in your cervix to block sperm and thin the lining of your womb to prevent a fertilised egg from implanting.

Can I Take Bimizza?

You may not be able to take Bimizza if you have a history of blood clots, migraines, severe liver disease or certain types of cancer. Tell your doctor about all pre-existing medical conditions during your consultation so they can ensure Bimizza is the best option for you.

What Is The Combined Contraceptive Pill?

The combined contraceptive pill is a medication that’s designed to prevent pregnancy. It usually contains two hormones, oestrogen and progesterone. If you’re prescribed the combined pill, you’ll take one pill at roughly the same time every day to ensure levels of the medication remain steady in your system.

How Does Bimizza Work?

Bimizza contains two hormones, oestrogen and progestogen. These hormones work to stop eggs being released by your ovaries. They also thicken the mucus in your cervix to block sperm and thin the lining of your womb to prevent any eggs that are fertilised from implanting. When taken correctly, Bimizza is 99% effective.

How To Use Bimizza

If you’re prescribed Bimizza, you’ll take one pill per day for 21 days. You’ll then have a seven-day period when you don’t take any pills, before starting your next course of 21 tablets. You should take your tablet at the same time every day to ensure levels of the medication remain steady in your system.

Ingredients

The active substances in Bimizza are desogestrel (progestogen) and ethinylestradiol (synthetic oestrogen). The other ingredients in the medication are all-rac-alpha-tocopherol, potato starch, povidone (E1201), stearic acid (E570), silica colloidal anhydrous (E551) and lactose anhydrous.

Side Effects

Bimizza could cause side effects in some people. The most common are headaches, weight gain, painful or tender breasts, and depression or mood changes. You may also experience migraines, skin problems and decreased sexual desire. If you’re concerned about any of the symptoms you experience while taking Bimizza, get in touch with a member of our clinical team.

Warnings

Combined contraceptive pills like Bimizza may put you at an increased risk of blood clots. If you notice swelling in your legs or feet, sudden unexplained breathlessness, or any other symptoms of a possible blood clot, seek medical attention straight away.

It’s essential to tell your doctor if you have diabetes, problems with your heart, circulation or blood clotting, kidney or liver problems or any other pre-existing medical conditions.
