Amoxicillin 500mg Capsules Information

What Are Amoxicillin 500mg Capsules?

Amoxicillin 500mg capsules are an antibiotic used to treat infections caused by bacteria. Amoxicillin belongs to a group of medicines called penicillins. It may be prescribed for bacterial infections, such as dental abscesses, or for infections that develop before or after dental procedures.

How Do Amoxicillin 500mg Capsules Work?

Amoxicillin capsules work by targeting the bacteria that cause the infection, stopping them from growing and multiplying, which helps your body fight it. Amoxicillin does not fix the underlying dental problem, so you will still need dental treatment to prevent the infection from returning.

Who Can Take Amoxicillin Capsules?

Amoxicillin is suitable for adults who can safely swallow capsules. If you’re not allergic to penicillin, amoxicillin may be appropriate for you. If you’re not sure whether you can take amoxicillin capsules, speak to your prescriber.

Alternatives To Amoxicillin Capsules

If amoxicillin isn’t right for you, your prescriber may recommend alternative antibiotics, such as Metronidazole or Clarithromycin. Your quick and easy consultation will help your prescriber decide which is the most suitable medicine for your dental infection.

How To Use Amoxicillin 500mg Capsules

Always take this medicine exactly as your prescriber has instructed. If you’re not sure or can’t remember, double-check with your prescriber before taking them. Always swallow your amoxicillin whole with water, and space the doses evenly, leaving at least 4 hours between each one. Never take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Even if you start to feel better, you should always finish your full course of amoxicillin. If the bacteria are not fully cleared, the infection could reappear.
