What is Erectile Dysfunction Injection Treatment?

Erectile Dysfunction Injection Treatment is a prescription erectile dysfunction treatment that you inject directly into your penis using a special injector. It contains the active ingredient, which relaxes the blood vessels in your penis, allowing more blood to flow there. This makes it easier to develop and maintain an erection. Your prescriber may recommend it when tablets are not suitable or have not worked for you.

Erectile Dysfunction Injection Treatment may be suitable if you have been diagnosed with erectile dysfunction and oral medications have not worked. However, there are certain conditions that mean you can’t use it, such as some blood disorders, penile conditions, or if you’ve been advised not to have sex for medical reasons.

How Does Erectile Dysfunction Injection Treatment Work?

Erectile Dysfunction Injection Treatment works by widening the blood vessels and increasing blood flow to your penis. This helps you get and maintain an erection. You’ll usually develop an erection within five to 15 minutes, and it typically lasts about an hour.

How To Use Erectile Dysfunction Injection Treatment

Your starter pack contains everything that you need to inject yourself twice. Before you use Erectile Dysfunction Injection Treatment at home your doctor will teach you how to prepare and inject it.

You must read the Patient Information Leaflet thoroughly before using Erectile Dysfunction Injection Treatment.

Start with the lowest dose advised (2.5 micrograms).

If this dose is not effective, you may increase gradually in steps of 2.5 micrograms, but only after at least 24 hours have passed.

If your prescribed dose does not work or only works partially, contact us.

Erectile Dysfunction Injection Treatment is injected directly into the side of your penis. Most people need between 10mcg and 20mcg per injection, but your prescriber will advise you on the correct dose. Never use more than 40mcg in a single injection, and don’t use Erectile Dysfunction Injection Treatment more than two to three times a week, leaving at least 24 hours between each dose.

Depending on the dose you are administering, there will potentially be leftover solution in the cartridge after your injection. This can not be reused for future doses, and the cartridge needs to be disposed of.

Side Effects

Like all medicines, Erectile Dysfunction Injection Treatment can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.

Side effects may include:

• Pain in the penis
• Burning or discomfort at the injection site
• Bruising or bleeding at the site of the injection
• Prolonged erection
• More frequent erections
• Headache
• Fungal infection
• Common cold

Long-term use can cause:

• Lumps at the site of injection or elsewhere in your penis
• A bend or kink in your penis

Warnings

An erection lasting longer than four hours is a medical emergency. If this occurs, seek immediate medical attention.

Erectile Dysfunction Injection Treatment doesn’t protect against sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). You may experience a small amount of bleeding at the injection site, so you need to use a condom to avoid STIs like chlamydia, gonorrhoea, herpes simplex virus, viral hepatitis, HIV, genital warts or syphilis.
