Canesten Pessaries are vaginal tablets used to treat thrush. The product includes an easy-to-use applicator, taking the treatment directly to the infection site. Use at night for best results.
Many women suffer from thrush, which can cause significant discomfort especially in reoccurring cases. Use Canesten Pessary preferably at night, to provide fast, effective relief from the itch, uncomfortable and soreness that accompanies thrush.
Vaginal candidiasis, or thrush, causes itching and discomfort in women, conditions that can be both unpleasant and embarrassing. Sufferers hope to find fast-acting treatment which is where Canesten Pessary Clotrimazole can prove invaluable.

This product treats the infection internally and externally to ensure that all symptoms of thrush are addressed. The treatment provides rapid relief from itch and discomfort, allowing quick recovery.
For enhanced relief, you may also use a cream on the outside of the vagina (vulva and labia) to relieve the external symptoms of thrush, such as itching, inflammation and soreness. Clotrimazole 1% or 2% creams are suitable for this purpose.
The active ingredient in Canesten Pessaries is clotrimazole, an antifungal medication that treats fungi and yeast infections. Clotrimazole kills the thrush-causing Candida fungi, by interfering with its cell membranes. The fungi’s cell membranes are vital to their survival as they prevent unwanted substances from entering and stop the contents of the cells from leaking out. Clotrimazole creates holes in these membranes, which kills the fungi and clears the infection.
Canesten pessaries may damage latex condoms and diaphragms. You should use an alternative method of contraception for at least five days after using this medication, or preferably abstain from sex until after the infection has cleared. Remember that having sex while you still have thrush is likely to transmit the infection to your partner, who could infect you again.
If your sexual partner also exhibits thrush symptoms (soreness and redness of the penis, tightness of the foreskin or a white, odourless discharge from the penis), they should be treated at the same time as with clotrimazole cream, to prevent you being re-infected. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.

Clotrimazole’s safety during pregnancy has not been studied. However, it has been used by a large number of women during pregnancy without harmful effects. Consult your doctor or midwife before using this medicine during pregnancy. If you have your doctor’s approval, use your fingers, not the applicator, to insert the pessary.

Clotrimazole is unlikely that any of the medicine will pass into breast milk since very little is absorbed into the bloodstream from the vagina it. However, as with all medicines, you should consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this medication if you are breastfeeding.
