About Nexium Tablets

What Are Nexium 20mg

Nexium 20mg tablets are used to treat acid reflux, heartburn, stomach ulcers and other conditions caused by excess stomach acid. The tablets work to control the amount of acid produced by your stomach, providing relief from pain and discomfort and helping you get on with your daily life.

Can I Use Nexium Gastro-Resistant Tablets

Most adults should be able to take Nexium gastro-resistant tablets. However, if you’re allergic to any of the ingredients in the tablets, have had an allergic reaction to other proton pump inhibitors, or take a medicine called nelfinavir, you may not be able to use the medication. Always check with your provider if you’re unsure if Nexium is suitable for you.

What Is The Difference Between Omeprazole And Nexium?

The active ingredient in Nexium is a medicine called esomeprazole. Both omeprazole and esomeprazole are proton pump inhibitors and both work to control excess stomach acid, however they are slightly different. This chemical difference means Nexium may be more effective at controlling acid, may work faster and could interact with fewer other medications.

How Does Nexium Work?

The active ingredient in Nexium tablets is called esomeprazole. It’s a type of medicine known as a proton pump inhibitor. Proton pumps are proteins that, when activated, pump acid into your stomach. By blocking the pumps, esomeprazole works to reduce acid production and relieve the symptoms of acid reflux, heartburn and other issues caused by excess stomach acid.

How To Take Nexium

You can take Nexium gastro-resistant tablets at any time of the day and can take the tablets with food or on an empty stomach. Swallow your tablets whole with a glass of water. Don’t chew or crush the tablets as they need to reach your stomach undamaged in order to be as effective as possible.

Ingredients

The active substance in Nexium is esomeprazole. The other ingredients are glycerol monostearate 40-55, hyprolose, hypromellose, iron oxide (E172), magnesium stearate, methacrylic acid ethyl acrylate copolymer (1:1) dispersion 30 per cent, microcrystalline cellulose, synthetic paraffin, macrogol, polysorbate 80, crospovidone, sodium stearyl fumarate, sugar spheres (sucrose and maize starch), talc, titanium dioxide (E171) and triethyl citrate.

Side Effects

Like all medications, Nexium tablets could cause side effects. The most common are headaches, diarrhoea, stomach pain, constipation and nausea. You may also notice swelling in your feet or ankles, disturbed sleep, dizziness and nausea.

If you experience an allergic reaction to Nexium, or notice your skin becoming yellow or your urine turning dark, stop taking the medication and seek medical attention.

Warnings

Don’t take Nexium if you’re allergic to esomeprazole or to any other proton pump inhibitors. And don’t take the medication if you take a medicine containing nelfinavir (used to treat HIV infection).

If you have severe liver or kidney problems, or have previously had a skin reaction after treatment with a medicine similar to Nexium, speak to a doctor or pharmacist before taking the medication.
