Xepin 5% Cream - Relief From Eczema Itching

Eczema is a common skin condition that causes dry, red, inflamed, and intensely itchy skin. It can flare up due to triggers like stress, allergens, weather changes, or irritants, leading to discomfort and the constant urge to scratch. This scratching can damage your skin further, making symptoms worse and prolonging flare-ups.

Xepin Cream helps manage eczema by targeting the itch. It contains 5% doxepin hydrochloride, an antihistamine that works by blocking histamine, a chemical in your body responsible for causing itching. Xepin Cream is designed to be used by people who are suffering from eczema and as directed by their doctor. You should avoid using the cream if you’re allergic to any of the ingredients and you should speak to your doctor first if you suffer from glaucoma, urinary retention, liver disease, depression or heart disease. You should also avoid using it if you’re pregnant or think you might be, unless your doctor specifically directs you otherwise.

You should apply a thin layer where you have patches of eczema three to four times a day, but you should never cover more than 10% of your body surface area. Ideally, you should use no more than 3g of cream per application and no more than 12g per day.

This is because using too much cream can increase the risk of you feeling drowsy or getting a dry mouth. As a rough guide 10% is one arm or the back and front of the top half or your leg, or half your torso. If you’re worried you’ve used too much, wash it off and speak to your doctor.

Some people do feel drowsy or dizzy when they use the cream, especially at the start of treatment when their body isn’t used to it. If you feel drowsy or less alert you should avoid driving or using heavy machinery until you know how the cream affects you.

You should also avoid drinking alcohol as this can make the drowsiness worse. Always use the cream exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

You can use Xepin Cream alongside other moisturising (emollient) creams to soothe your skin and keep it hydrated. It’s best to wait 30 minutes between applying Xepin Cream and other hydrating creams so you don’t dilute its effects.

If you’re using other steroid skin creams or antihistamines to treat your eczema it’s best to speak to your doctor or pharmacist first to make sure they’re safe to use together.

Your skin may start to feel better and you’ll notice less itching within 24 hours of using the cream although it can take a few days for the full effects to be felt. Everyone’s skin responds differently so it’s important to use the cream as directed.

If you don’t see any improvements after seven days of regular use, or if symptoms get worse, then speak to your doctor or pharmacist – they may ask you to continue for a little longer or suggest an alternative treatment.

While Xepin Cream is generally safe for most people you shouldn’t use it if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding unless your doctor says it’s okay. This is because there’s not enough evidence to show it’s safe for pregnant women.

If you’re suffering with eczema, speak to your doctor first who may be able to suggest treatments that are safer for you and your baby. Always follow medical advice and never start a treatment during pregnancy without professional guidance.

Xepin works differently to steroid creams or antihistamine tablets. While steroid creams reduce inflammation and oral antihistamines target histamine throughout your body, Xepin tackles it locally, blocking histamine directly in the affected skin.

This makes it particularly effective for targeting eczema without the potential side effects of long-term steroid use like thinning skin. If you need focused, prescription-strength eczema treatment, it’s a helpful alternative.

It’s best not to cover any areas treated with Xepin with bandages, dressings or tight clothing unless your doctor specifically says you should. Covering the skin can increase how much of the cream is absorbed and may raise the risk of side effects like drowsiness or skin irritation.

Leave your skin to breathe after applying the cream and let it absorb fully before you do cover the area with clothing.
