Buy Oestrogel Topical HRT

Oestrogel is a form of topical hormone replacement therapy (HRT) that’s used to treat many common symptoms of menopause, including hot flushes, sleeping issues, vaginal dryness, low libido, headaches and mood swings. It’s also usually prescribed for women who are at risk of developing osteoporosis, or brittle bones. When your oestrogen levels drop after menopause, your bones become weaker and are more likely to break. Oestrogel can help protect your bones by reducing the risk of them fracturing.

Oestrogel comes in an easy-to-use pump, with each pump delivering one dose of the medication. As a topical medicine, meaning you apply it directly to your skin, there are fewer side effects when compared to systemic (full body) types of HRT, like tablets. This is because it doesn’t pass through your digestive system, and so impacts fewer parts of the body. If your menopause symptoms are affecting your quality of life, Oestrogel could be a good treatment option for you.

About Oestrogel

Oestrogel is a topical form of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) that’s used to treat the most common symptoms of menopause, such as hot flushes, night sweats, difficulty sleeping, vaginal dryness and irritation, reduced sex drive, headaches, and low mood. It can also be used to help prevent osteoporosis and maintain bone density in post-menopausal women. Women who have gone through the menopause are at higher risk of fracture, so Oestrogel can help reduce this risk.

With Oestrogel, you apply it directly to your skin, meaning there’s less risk of side effects than there is with systemic HRT, which can impact the entire body.

How Does Oestrogel Work?

Oestrogen is a hormone that plays a crucial role in many systems in your body, and in the function of many of your core organs. When you go through menopause, your natural oestrogen levels fall, and this can cause a number of unwanted symptoms. Oestrogel is designed to replace the missing oestrogen in women who are in menopause. This medicine contains estradiol, which mimics your natural oestrogen, and can alleviate the symptoms associated with menopause like hot flushes and mood swings. Replacing the missing oestrogen helps support bone density, which may help prevent osteoporosis.

Alternatives To Oestrogel

At The Independent Pharmacy, we sell a large range of HRT including tablets, patches, vaginal tablets and creams as well as Oestrogel, another brand of oestrogen gel that is applied to the skin.

If you would like to discuss changing to a different form of HRT you should arrange to speak to your doctor who will be able to advise you of your options.

How To Use Oestrogel

Before using your new pump pack for the first time, you need to prepare it by following the instructions in the patient information leaflet. You’ll usually use Oestrogel once a day, at the same time of day, either in the morning or evening.

One pump equals one dose, and you’ll usually be prescribed two or four pumps. You should spread the gel on a large area of skin on either the outer arm and shoulder of both arms, or the mid-inner thigh of both legs. Whichever area you choose, you should apply an equal amount on each side of your body.

Leave the area to dry for at least five minutes before covering with clothes, and wash your hands with soap and water after applying the gel.

It can take a few weeks for Oestrogel to work, so being patient and consistent is key.

Ingredients

The active ingredient in Oestrogel is estradiol. This is a synthetic form of the female hormone oestrogen. Each pump (1.25g) of Oestrogel contains 750 micrograms of estradiol (as hemihydrate), 0.06% w/w. The other ingredients are carbomer, trolamine, ethanol and purified water.

Side Effects

As with all medicines, Oestreogel can cause side effects. The most common side effects include painful, heavy periods, irregular bleeding, white or yellow vaginal discharge or yeast infections, mood swings, weight changes, nausea, abdominal pain, breast pain, migraines, vertigo or feelings of weakness, wind, and acne. For a full list of all possible side effects, check the patient information leaflet included with the medication, or talk to a member of our clinical team.

Before using Oestrogel you must read the Patient Information Leaflet thoroughly.

Warnings

Please read the Patient Information Leaflet carefully before using Oestrogel.

You shouldn’t use Oestrogel if you’re allergic to any of its ingredients. If you have an intact womb, your prescriber may give you a progesterone-based medication alongside Oestrogel, as this may reduce your risk of developing certain cancers.

You should talk to your prescriber if you have fibroids, endometriosis, have high blood pressure, diabetes, gallstones, SLE (Systemic Lupus Erythematosus), epilepsy, asthma, kidney problems, or experience migraines, as HRT can sometimes make these conditions worse.

Oestrogel may not be a fitting treatment option for everyone. You shouldn’t use this product if you have ever had or are at risk of oestrogen-sensitive cancer, have a blood clot, have a blood clotting disorder or have liver disease.

If you have any concerns over your use of Oestrogel, please speak to a member of our clinical team.
