Daktacort Cream is a topical treatment for fungal skin infections. Its dual-action composition combines a potent antifungal (miconazole nitrate) to treat the source of skin infections, and a corticosteroid (hydrocortisone) to combat itching, inflammation and irritation.
How Does Daktacort Hydrocortisone Cream Work?
Daktacort's dual-action formulation uses two active ingredients that work together to provide relief from skin infections.
Miconazole belongs to a family of antifungals called imidazoles. They work by preventing fungal cells from producing ergosterol, destroying their walls (membranes) and eliminating the infection at the source.
Hydrocortisone is a commonly used corticosteroid which reduces inflammation, swelling, redness and itching to provide faster relief from the symptoms of infection.
How To Take/Use Daktacort Hydrocortisone Cream
Always wash and dry your hands before and after applying Daktacort Hydrocortisone Cream.
Wash and dry the affected area, and apply a small amount of cream to it and the surrounding skin. Repeat this twice each day for one week. Even if your skin shows signs of improvement, you should continue treatment twice every day to reduce the risk of reinfection.

Ingredients
The dual active ingredients in Daktacort Cream are miconazole nitrate and hydrocortisone.
Other key inactive ingredients include Macrogol 6-32 stearate and glycol stearate to give the cream texture and stability, and liquid paraffin to prevent moisture loss in the skin, as well as preservatives like butylhydroxyanisole and benzoic acid.
Side Effects
Like all medications, Daktacort Cream has some risk of side effects, although not everyone will experience them.
Side effects are mild, uncommon and temporary. They include skin irritation, a burning sensation on the application site, as well as itchy skin and hives (urticaria).
Warnings
Daktacort Cream is not for use on your face. Avoid contact with your eyes. If you get Daktacort cream in your eyes, rinse them immediately with water. Contact a member of our clinical team straight away if you experience any symptoms of an allergic reaction (including swelling of the lips, tongue, mouth or throat) or any changes in your vision when using this product.
Daktacort Cream should not be used on broken skin, fungal conditions affecting your anus and/or genitals, or for cold sores.
If you use any rubber-based barrier contraceptives (such as condoms or diaphragms), avoid contact between these and Daktacort Cream, as some of the ingredients in this product could damage the rubber and reduce the protection that they provide.
Do not use Daktacort Cream for more than seven days. If your symptoms persist after this, speak to a member of our clinical team.

What Is Daktacort Hydrocortisone Cream Used For?
Daktacort Hydrocortisone Cream is effective in treating certain fungal skin infections. Fungal infections include athlete's foot, (fungal infection between the skin of the toes, sweat rash or jock itch (infection in the groin, inner thighs and lower abdomen) or thrush in the skin folds of the breasts, abdomen or upper legs. Please note that this product is not suitable for vaginal thrush.
How Long Does Daktacort Hydrocortisone Cream Take To Work?
In most cases, people using Daktacort Cream see a visible improvement within seven days. It is important to continue using Daktacort for the full week, even if symptoms are reduced earlier. This will help to prevent reinfection.

Can I Use Daktacort Hydrocortisone Cream On My Face?
Unless specifically instructed to do so by a healthcare professional, applying Daktacort to the skin on your face is not recommended. This is because of the hydrocortisone content, which could damage the thinner and more sensitive skin on your face.
Can Daktacort Hydrocortisone Cream Treat Ringworm?
Although ringworm is a fungal skin condition, Daktacort is not usually suitable for ringworm. The corticosteroid component of this treatment may actually worsen this particular condition or delay healing. A topical antifungal like Daktarin may be a more suitable treatment for those with ringworm.

What's The Difference Between Daktacort And Daktarin Cream?
Both Daktacort and Daktarin cream are used to treat fungal infections, and both use miconazole nitrate as an active ingredient. The key difference is that Daktacort contains hydrocortisone, a corticosteroid included to ease inflammation, while Daktarin doesn’t.
Who Should Not Use Daktacort Hydrocortisone Cream?
Some people may experience sensitivity (contraindications) to ingredients in Daktacort Hydrocortisone Cream. You should avoid using this product if you have a known sensitivity to miconazole or other imidazole derivatives, hydrocortisone or any of the other ingredients, such as benzoic acid.

While Daktacort is safe to use with many other medications, it can have potential interactions with blood-thinning tablets (oral anticoagulants) such as warfarin. Contact between this product and rubber barrier contraceptives (i.e. condoms and diaphragms) should also be avoided as some of the ingredients may damage the rubber and make them less effective.
How Should I Store Daktacort Hydrocortisone Cream?
Store Daktacort in a cool, dry place below 25°C. Keep out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use past the expiry date stated on the carton.
