Adapalene and Benzoyl Peroxide Gel Summary

Adapalene and Benzoyl Peroxide Gel Information

What Is Adapalene and Benzoyl Peroxide Gel?

Adapalene and Benzoyl Peroxide Gel, also known as generic Epiduo, is a prescription-only treatment for acne. The gel works by killing the bacteria on your skin that cause acne and by keeping the pores in your skin clear of dead cells. The gel also helps to reduce inflammation, making your acne less painful and less visible.

Can I Use Adapalene and Benzoyl Peroxide Gel?

If you aren’t allergic to any of the ingredients in Adapalene and Benzoyl Peroxide Gel, you should be able to use the medication safely. However, if you have eczema or sunburn you may need to take extra care when applying the gel.

Is Adapalene and Benzoyl Peroxide Gel The Same As Epiduo Gel?

Adapalene and Benzoyl Peroxide acne treatment is the generic version of Epiduo gel. This means that the two gels work in the same way and have the same active ingredients. However, as Adapalene and Benzoyl Peroxide Gel is a generic medicine, it’s generally more affordable than the branded Epiduo Gel.

How Does Adapalene and Benzoyl Peroxide Gel Work?

Adapalene and Benzoyl Peroxide Gel works to increase the rate at which your healthy skin cells renew. This helps to remove dead cells from the surface of your skin and keep your pores clear. The gel also reduces inflammation caused by acne and kills the bacteria living on your skin that could make your acne worse.

How To Use Adapalene and Benzoyl Peroxide Gel

Before applying this medicine, wash the affected areas with water and a mild soap. Rinse your skin well and pat it dry. Apply a small amount of the medicine to each area of your skin that’s affected by acne and then gently rub it in. Wash your hands thoroughly after applying the gel.

Ingredients

Adapalene and Benzoyl Peroxide Gel contains two active ingredients, adapalene and benzoyl peroxide. One gram of the gel contains 1mg of adapalene and 25mg of anhydrous benzoyl peroxide (as benzoyl peroxide, hydrous).

The gel also contains disodium edetate, docusate sodium, poloxamer 124, glycerol, propylene glycol (E1520), sorbitan oleate, sepineo P 600 and purified water.

Side Effects

The most common side effects of Adapalene and Benzoyl Peroxide Gel are dry skin, a localised rash, burning sensations, skin irritation, redness and scaling. Your skin could also feel itchy, and you may be more prone to sunburn. If you have an allergic reaction to the gel, stop using it immediately and seek medical attention.

Warnings

Don’t use Adapalene & Benzoyl Peroxide Gel on areas where you have cuts, scrapes, sunburn or eczema. If you get the gel in your eyes, nostrils, mouth or other sensitive areas, wash it out straight away using plenty of water.

As Adapalene & Benzoyl Peroxide Gel may make you more sensitive to UV light, use extra sun protection in the form of an SPF cream when you go outside.

Always read the Patient Information Leaflet contained within your product's packaging before taking any medication as they will always contain the most up to date ingredients, warnings and advice.
