Dioralyte Relief Information

What is Dioralyte Relief?

Dioralyte Relief Sachets help prevent dehydration by replenishing fluids and vital electrolytes such as glucose and salts.

It is often used alongside an antibiotic in treating traveller’s diarrhoea. This is a condition that occurs after consuming contaminated food or drinking water, usually in a country outside of the UK, most often caused by a bacterial infection.

What's the difference between Dioralyte and Dioralyte Relief?

Dioralyte is mainly for rehydration and electrolyte replacement. It contains a balance of salts plus glucose, which helps the body absorb fluids.

Dioralyte Relief rehydrates whilst helping to “bulk up” stools with its pre-cooked rice powder in its formulation. This can help diarrhoea settle faster.

How do Dioralyte Relief Sachets work?

Dioralyte Relief Sachets sachets contain glucose and salts such a sodium, potassium and disodium that when added to water and consumed, help the body to absorb more fluids.

Alternatives to Dioralyte

It is recommended that for episodes of diarrhoea that you also take an antidiarrheal medication such as Immodium or Loperamide to help reduce bowel movements, slowing down the frequency and amount of fluid loss through diarrhoea.

For those that want to take precautions against travellers' diarrhoea when abroad, we may be able to provide Ciprofloxacin and Azithromycin Traveller's Diarrhoea Packs.

    How to take Dioralyte Relief

Take 1 sachet after every loose bowel movement.

    1. Open the sachet, and empty the contents of each sachet into 200ml of fresh drinking water or cooled boiled water.
    2. Stir until the medicine has dissolved (mixture will make the water look slightly milky even when fully dissolved)
    3. Drink the mixture immediately after mixing

Do not use more or less than 200 ml of water. If you do, the drink will become too weak or too strong. It will not work as well. You may also upset the balance of salts in your body.

If you continue to experience diarrhoea or vomiting after 24 hours you should consult with a doctor.

You can take up to 5 sachets each day, for up to 3 to 4 days.

Do not take more than 5 sachets in 24 hours.
