About Fexofenadine
What is Fexofenadine?
Fexofenadine is an antihistamine medication used to relieve symptoms of allergies such as hay fever (allergic rhinitis) and hives (urticaria). It works by blocking the action of histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms such as itching, sneezing, runny nose, and watery eyes.
Fexofenadine is classified as a second-generation antihistamine, which means it is less likely to cause sedation compared to older antihistamines like diphenhydramine. It is available in various forms, including tablets, capsules, and oral suspension.
What are Fexofenadine tablets used for?
Fexofenadine tablets are primarily used to relieve symptoms associated with allergies. These symptoms may include:
- Hay fever (allergic rhinitis): Symptoms such as sneezing, runny or itchy nose, nasal congestion, and itchy or watery eyes due to exposure to allergens like pollen, dust mites, or pet dander.
- Hives (urticaria): Itchy, raised welts on the skin that may appear suddenly and can be triggered by various factors, including allergies to foods, medications, or environmental factors.
Fexofenadine works by blocking the action of histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergic reactions and symptoms. By reducing histamine activity, Fexofenadine helps alleviate allergy symptoms such as itching, sneezing, runny nose, and watery eyes.
