Frovatriptan 2.5mg Tablets Information

What Is Frovatriptan 2.5mg?

If you’re experiencing migraine headaches, Frovatriptan may help. Available in tablet form, it works by narrowing the widened blood vessels in your brain that are thought to cause symptoms like pain, nausea and sensitivity to light. It is used to relieve migraine symptoms once an attack has begun.

Can I Take Frovatriptan?

Frovatriptan may be used if you’re aged 18 or over and have been diagnosed with migraine headaches with or without aura. It won’t prevent a migraine from happening, but it can offer rapid relief from the onset of common symptoms. It’s not recommended for use if you’re over 65.

How To Take Frovatriptan

Take frovatriptan as directed by your prescriber. The recommended dose is one 2.5mg tablet, taken as soon as possible after you start to get a headache. Swallow whole with a glass of water. Don’t take more than two tablets (5mg) in a 24-hour period.

Ingredients

Each tablet contains 2.5mg of frovatriptan (as frovatriptan succinate). The other ingredients are anhydrous lactose, microcrystalline cellulose, sodium starch glycolate (type A), magnesium stearate and colloidal anhydrous silica. The film coating contains hypromellose, titanium dioxide (E 171), macrogol 8000 and macrogol 400.

Side Effects

Like all medicines, frovatriptan may cause side effects, although not everyone gets them. Common side effects include dizziness, tiredness, dry mouth or flushing. Side effects are usually mild and short-lived. If you experience chest pain or a severe allergic reaction, stop taking the tablets and seek medical help.

Warnings

Don’t use if you're allergic to frovatriptan or any ingredient in the tablets, or you have heart disease, angina, high blood pressure that isn’t controlled, circulation problems, a history of stroke or TIA, or severe liver problems.
Avoid if you’re taking ergotamine, medicines similar to ergotamine, or other triptans. If unsure, speak to your prescriber or pharmacist first.
