What is Silandyl?
Silandyl is a prescription treatment for erectile dysfunction (ED) in adult men. It contains sildenafil, a PDE5 inhibitor that increases blood flow to the penis when you're sexually aroused. Unlike conventional sildenafil tablets, Silandyl is an orodispersible film, which means it dissolves rapidly on your tongue.
How To Use Silandyl
Take Silandyl around one hour before you plan to have sex. The recommended starting dose is 50mg, although our clinical team will advise you on the right dose for you.
To take Silandyl:
- Make sure your hands are dry before handling the film
- Carefully open the sachet and remove the film
- Place it directly onto your tongue
- Allow it to dissolve before swallowing
Silandyl can be taken without water, although you can drink water if you prefer. Do not take Silandyl more than once a day.
You can take Silandyl with or without food, but if you have a heavy meal it may mean it takes longer to start working. Drinking excessive amounts of alcohol may also make it more difficult for you to get an erection.

Can I Switch From Sildenafil Tablets To Silandyl?
Silandyl contains the same active ingredient as sildenafil tablets. If you regularly use sildenafil and would like to try a new formulation, you may be able to try Silandyl in place of your usual sildenafil tablet. Or if you find 50mg isn’t enough for you, but 100mg causes side effects, you could try Silandyl 75mg.

Silandyl Side Effects
Like all medicines, Silandyl can cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them.
The most common side effect is a headache, which may affect more than 1 in 10 people.
Other common side effects, which may affect up to 1 in 10 people, include:
- Nausea
- Facial flushing or hot flushes
- Indigestion
- Changes to your vision, including blurred vision or a colour tinge
- A stuffy nose
- Dizziness
Stop taking Silandyl and seek medical help immediately if you experience a serious allergic reaction, chest pain, a prolonged or painful erection, a sudden decrease or loss of vision, a serious skin reaction or a seizure.
If you have an erection that lasts for more than 4 hours, contact a doctor immediately.

Silandyl Warnings
Silandyl is not suitable for everyone. Do not take Silandyl if you:
- Are allergic to sildenafil or any of its ingredients
- Take nitrates for chest pain (angina), nitric oxide donors such as amyl nitrite (‘poppers’) or riociguat
- Have a severe heart or liver problem
- Have recently had a stroke or heart attack
- Have low blood pressure
- Have certain inherited eye conditions, such as retinitis pigmentosa, or have previously experienced vision loss due to NAION
Speak to your pharmacist before taking Silandyl if you have certain blood disorders, heart problems, a stomach ulcer, a bleeding disorder such as haemophilia or a deformity of the penis, including Peyronie’s disease.
Tell your pharmacist about any other medicines you take or ED treatments you use, as some can interact with Silandyl or affect the dose that’s suitable for you.
Silandyl can cause dizziness and changes to your vision. Make sure you know how it affects you before driving or using machinery.

Is Silandyl better than a sildenafil tablet?
Silandyl contains sildenafil, so it’s not necessarily a better treatment than a tablet, just an alternative way to take sildenafil.
Does Silandyl work faster than a sildenafil tablet?
Both Silandyl and sildenafil tablets work in the same amount of time, which is around 30–60 minutes. Although the film dissolves quickly, it doesn’t mean the medication will start working faster.

What does Silandyl taste like?
Silandyl contains lemon and grapefruit flavourings, as well as the sweetener sucralose. This gives it a flavoured taste, rather than the naturally bitter taste of sildenafil citrate.
Does Silandyl contain lactose?
No, Silandyl doesn’t contain lactose, so it may be suitable if you’re lactose intolerant.
Some ED medications, including Viagra, Viagra Connect, Cialis and Cialis Together contain lactose, along with some generic sildenafil and tadalafil tablets, so check the ingredients or tell your pharmacist if you need to avoid it.
