What is Naprosyn
Containing the active ingredient naproxen, Naprosyn Pain Relief provides relief for short-term musculoskeletal conditions, including lower back pain, neck pain, ankle sprains, knee pain, plantar fasciitis, shoulder pain and arthritis.
Naprosyn Pain Relief provides long-lasting, anti-inflammatory relief for back, muscle and joint pain. From just one dose, you can benefit from up to 12 hours of uninterrupted pain relief helping you to get on with your day.
What is a Gastro-Resistant Tablet?
Naprosyn Pain Relief is a gastro-resistant tablet. This means that the tablet has a special coating that stops it from being broken down by the acid in your stomach. Instead, the tablet is released and digested further down in your intestine.
How To Take Naprosyn Pain Relief Tablets
On the first day, take two tablets, followed by one 250mg tablet after six to eight hours if needed.
On the second and third day, one 250mg tablet can be taken, if needed, every six to eight hours. No more than three tablets should be taken per day. You should only take Naprosyn Pain Relief tablets for up to a maximum of three days.

The active ingredient is naproxen.
Side Effects
Some common side effects include:
- Drowsiness
- Dizziness
- Headaches
- Ringing in ears (tinnitus)
- Changes in vision
- Rashes
You should consult your doctor as soon as possible if you experience any of the following rare side effects:
- Persistent diarrhoea, vomiting, stomach pain or weight loss
- Persistently itchy skin, rashes or blisters
- Difficulty breathing
- Chest pains
- Bleeding from the back passage (anus) or blood in vomit or stools
- Swelling of the throat, face or extremities (hands and feet)
Like all anti-inflammatory medicines, Naproxen can cause side effects.
Warnings
Naprosyn Pain Relief is for adults age 18-50 years.
Do not take Naprosyn Pain Relief if you:
- Are allergic (hypersensitive) to naproxen, naproxen sodium or any of the other ingredients of Naprosyn Pain Relief
- Are allergic to aspirin, or other NSAIDs, or you have ever had asthma, runny nose, swelling of the skin or rash when taking these medicines
- Have or have ever had stomach or duodenal (gut) ulcers, bleeding in the stomach or intestines (gastrointestinal bleeding)
- Have previously experienced bleeding or perforation in your stomach while taking NSAIDs
- Are taking other NSAID painkillers, or aspirin
- Are taking any medicines which could increase the risk of bleeding, such as oral corticosteroids, anticoagulants such as warfarin, selective serotonin-reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), or anti-platelet agents such as aspirin
- Have a severe kidney, liver or heart condition
- Are in the last three months of pregnancy.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Naproxen can make it more difficult to become pregnant.
Do not take Naprosyn if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Naprosyn and Alcohol
You should not consume alcohol when taking Naproxen: doing so can cause damage to the lining of your stomach and may lead to gastritis, a condition that has very uncomfortable symptoms.

What Makes Gastro-Resistant Tablets Different From Regular Naproxen?
Naproxen Gastro-Resistant Tablets provide the same level of pain relief as regular Naproxen tablets while also protecting your stomach. They have a specially formulated coating that prevents them from being broken down in your stomach. Instead, they are broken down in your lower intestine where they are much less likely to cause irritation.
You may be prescribed Naproxen Gastro-Resistant Tablets if you have a sensitive stomach or a chronic condition that requires a longer course of pain management.
Can I Take Naproxen Gastro-Resistant Tablets Every Day?
Because of the gastro-protective properties of Naproxen Gastro-Resistant Tablets, they are usually safe to be taken every day as prescribed by a healthcare provider. Your doctor or pharmacist may prescribe you further medication for stomach protection if your course of treatment lasts for longer than two weeks.
How Long Do Naproxen Gastro-Resistant Tablets Take To Work?
Naproxen is usually effective within one hour, with most people experiencing the full effect within two hours. In order to protect your gut, it is best to avoid alcohol, coffee, grapefruit, and any foods that are high in salt and potassium while taking Naproxen Gastro-Resistant Tablets.
You should also avoid taking other NSAIDs such as Ibuprofen. Check with your healthcare provider if you feel that you need additional pain relief. They may suggest a mild analgesic such as paracetamol.
Do I Need To Take These Tablets With Food?
The gastro-resistant coating of these tablets makes them less likely to cause stomach irritation. Nonetheless, it is recommended that they still be taken with food. As well as aiding digestion, it is a good practice to combine doses with mealtimes to reduce the risk of missed doses.
What Is The Maximum Daily Dose Of Naproxen Gastro-Resistant Tablets?
In most cases, it is not advised to exceed a dodge of 1,000mg of Naproxen Gastro-Resistant Tablets per day. If you are older or have kidney or liver problems, your healthcare provider may assign a lower maximum dosage.
Common dosage schedules are as follows:
- a starting dose of 500mg and a further 250mg every 6-8 hours as needed for muscle, joint and tendon problems or period pain
- 500mg-1000mg twice a day for bone / joint conditions like arthritis or ankylosing spondylitis
- 750mg starting dose followed by 250mg every eight hours as required for gout

Can I Break Or Crush The Tablets?
No. Naproxen Gastro-Resistant tablets must only be swallowed whole. Crushing or breaking the tablets can negate the effect of the gastro-resistant coating and result in stomach irritation and increased risk of ulcers.
How Do I Store Naproxen Gastro-Resistant Tablets?
In order to maintain the gastro-resistant coating's integrity and the overall effectiveness of this medication, it's essential that Naproxen Gastro-Resistant Tablets are stored properly.
Store in a cool, dark place at a temperature below 25°C. Always store these tablets in their original packaging and keep them out of the sight and reach of children. Do not take any medication that is past its expiry date.
What Should I Do If I Miss A Dose?
If you miss your regularly scheduled dosage, you can take it as soon as you remember as long as it is not close to your next prescribed dosage time.
If it is within six hours of your next dose, do not double dose. Instead, skip the missed dose and take your next one as usual.
