About Rizatriptan 10mg Tablets

What Are Rizatriptan Tablets?

Rizatriptan tablets are a prescription-only migraine treatment suitable for adults only. They are available in five mg or 10mg dosages.

Rizatriptan belongs to a group of medicines called triptans, which work by directly targeting nerves and blood vessels responsible for migraine attacks. It is often prescribed for its fast-acting and effective pain relief.

Can I Use Rizatriptan?

Rizatriptan is suitable for most adults. However, it is associated with additional risks for people with heart disease, people with high blood pressure and men over the age of 65.

This is why we need you to complete a quick, easy and confidential online consultation before we can prescribe this treatment.

Can I Take Rizatriptan With Other Pain Medication?

Rizatriptan is safe to take with over-the-counter pain medication like aspirin, paracetamol and ibuprofen. Our clinical team can advise you on when it is best to take these, but it is generally advisable to take them 30-60 minutes before your Rizatriptan dose.

How Does Rizatriptan Work?

Rizatriptan is a serotonin receptor agonist. It works by narrowing the blood vessels in your brain to stop the transmission of pain signals as well as inhibiting the release of brain chemicals that can cause feelings of dizziness, nausea and light and sound sensitivity.

How To Use Rizatriptan

Always use Rizatriptan tablets as directed by our clinical team. Swallow the tablet whole with water.

In most cases, you should take one 10mg dose of Rizatriptan as soon as possible after your migraine has started. It cannot be used to prevent an attack. Do not take more than two doses.

A five mg dose may be prescribed if you take Propranolol or have kidney or liver problems. Do not take more than two doses in one day.
