About Rizatriptan 10mg Tablets
What Are Rizatriptan Tablets?
Rizatriptan tablets are a prescription-only migraine treatment suitable for adults only. They are available in five mg or 10mg dosages.
Rizatriptan belongs to a group of medicines called triptans, which work by directly targeting nerves and blood vessels responsible for migraine attacks. It is often prescribed for its fast-acting and effective pain relief.
Can I Use Rizatriptan?
Rizatriptan is suitable for most adults. However, it is associated with additional risks for people with heart disease, people with high blood pressure and men over the age of 65.
This is why we need you to complete a quick, easy and confidential online consultation before we can prescribe this treatment.
Can I Take Rizatriptan With Other Pain Medication?
Rizatriptan is safe to take with over-the-counter pain medication like aspirin, paracetamol and ibuprofen. Our clinical team can advise you on when it is best to take these, but it is generally advisable to take them 30-60 minutes before your Rizatriptan dose.
How Does Rizatriptan Work?
Rizatriptan is a serotonin receptor agonist. It works by narrowing the blood vessels in your brain to stop the transmission of pain signals as well as inhibiting the release of brain chemicals that can cause feelings of dizziness, nausea and light and sound sensitivity.
How To Use Rizatriptan
Always use Rizatriptan tablets as directed by our clinical team. Swallow the tablet whole with water.
In most cases, you should take one 10mg dose of Rizatriptan as soon as possible after your migraine has started. It cannot be used to prevent an attack. Do not take more than two doses.
A five mg dose may be prescribed if you take Propranolol or have kidney or liver problems. Do not take more than two doses in one day.

Rizatriptan FAQs
What Is Rizatriptan?
Rizatriptan is a prescription-only migraine treatment. It belongs to a group of medicines called triptans. These work by restricting blood flow to certain parts of your brain, inhibiting pain signals and restricting brain chemicals that cause feelings of dizziness, nausea and sensitivity to light and sound.
Do I Need A Prescription For Rizatriptan?
Yes. Because of the risk associated with Rizatriptan for people who have certain conditions, we need to carry out a brief online consultation to make sure it is a safe and appropriate treatment for you. Of course, this is quick, easy, and 100% confidential.
How Do I Take Rizatriptan?
In most cases, you should take a 10mg dose of Rizatriptan as soon as you experience migraine symptoms. Swallow whole with water.
If your symptoms persist, wait two hours before taking a second dose. Do not take more than two doses in a day.
Is Rizatriptan Stronger Than Sumatriptan?
Studies show that Rizatriptan is generally faster-acting and more effective than Sumatriptan, with participants reporting better pain relief within two hours. Results from Sumatriptan showed that effectiveness peaks between two and four hours after dosage.
Does Rizatriptan Work Immediately?
While it is not quite immediate, Rizariptan starts to work quickly, usually alleviating migraine symptoms within 30 minutes. If your symptoms persist, you can take two doses per day. Wait at least two hours before taking a second dose.
Is Rizatriptan Addictive?
No. Rizatriptan is a serotonin receptor agonist. These medicines are not habit-forming in the same way that opioid painkillers such as morphine are known to be.
How Often Can I Take Rizatriptan?
Always use Rizatriptan as directed by our clinical team. You should take one dose per day, or two if your symptoms persist for more than two hours after the first dose. You should not take more than one dose within two hours and take no more than two doses per day.
Does Rizatriptan Cause Side Effects?
Like all medicines, Rizatripan is linked to some side effects. Some are common and fairly mild, such as headaches, dry mouth or indigestion. Others are rarer but more serious, including high blood pressure, facial, chest and abdominal pain, and slow heartbeat (bradycardia). Please refer the product information leaflet for a comprehensive list.
Is Rizatriptan Safe During Pregnancy?
There is currently no evidence to suggest that taking Rizatriptan is harmful to pregnant people or those who are breastfeeding. However, if you are pregnant or trying for a baby, you should let our clinical team know during your consultation.
