What are Ultramol Soluble Tablets?
Ultramol Soluble is made up of paracetamol, codeine phosphate and caffeine. They work together to relieve acute moderate pain caused by headaches, migraine, toothache, neuralgia, period pain and rheumatic pains when other painkillers have not worked and at least 4 hours has passed since you last took a painkiller.
Ultramol should only be taken for up to 3 days in a row. If you feel you need it for longer, consult your doctor or pharmacist for guidance.
The Codeine in this medicine can cause addiction if you take it continuously for more than 3 days. If you begin to notice withdrawal symptoms, speak to your doctor or pharmacist.
Taking this medicine for headaches for more than 3 days may actually worsen them. Please read the entire patient information leaflet contained within the product packaging before taking this medicine.
What is Codeine?
Codeine is a mild opioid painkiller commonly used in the UK to manage moderate pain, suppress severe coughs, and occasionally treat diarrhoea. It’s derived from the opium poppy plant and is generally considered less strong than opioids like morphine. Codeine is often combined with other medications, such as paracetamol or ibuprofen, in prescription and over-the-counter products.
How Codeine Works
Codeine works by binding to opioid receptors in the brain and spinal cord, which alters the way pain is perceived and can also have a calming effect. Once ingested, codeine is partially converted by the liver into morphine, which provides much of its pain-relieving effect. However, how effectively codeine works can vary greatly among individuals because people metabolise it at different rates.
